Water Transmission Projects

Surge Analysis

The Ault Field Pump Station is situated at the terminal end of a long transmission main where it could be vulnerable to excessive surge pressures in the event of a sudden change in velocity of the water in the transmission main. This project includes conducting a surge analysis of the transmission main to assess the magnitude of potential pressure surges at the lift station. If the analysis indicates that the pump station could be exposed to damaging pressure surges then an additional project designed to mitigate the threat of surge damage will follow.

24-Inch Transmission Main Condition Assessment

The Oak Harbor water supply is conveyed from Anacortes to Oak Harbor through a 24-inch ductile iron transmission main that is 45 years old. The main extends along SR-20 for approximately 12 miles from Anacortes to Oak Harbor. This main is a vital facility to the community and it is important to maintain and protect it by assessing the conditions of the pipe and locating it precisely. The condition assessment will investigate the soundness of the pipe, soil conditions around the pipe and document the precise location of the pipe by physically exposing it at appropriate intervals and at points of interest.

Transmission Main Intertie Design

There are parallel water transmission mains on either side of SR-20 through Deception Pass State Park. An additional intertie linking the two mains is needed to improve operational flexibility.
