Testing Process

City of Oak Harbor Police Officer, Corrections Officer and Career Firefighter positions test through National Testing Network, Inc. for Fire and Public Safety Testing for Police.

These testing networks are a service provided to conduct  testing and Physical Ability Testing (PAT or CPAT) in a standardized, professional environment.  These  testing networks do not replace Oak Harbor Police, Corrections or Fire Department’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process.  All candidate results are provided to the City of Oak Harbor where the final decisions are made through a Civil Service process.

To fill out an application and schedule a test, visit the above links, then select Law Enforcement, Corrections or Firefighter and sign up for a testing time.

What to expect at the testing network website:
  • Initial application process (Personal History Questionaire)
  • Information related to the City of Oak Harbor position, including minimum requirements, salary and benefits.
  • Detailed information about the testing process for both the entry level test and PAT testing.
  • Opportunity to take online practice tests at www.fireteamtest.com (for Fire).
  • Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests are offered multiple times a week, including Saturdays.
  • Take high quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment.
Upon completion of the entry level exam and PAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Civil Service Secretary/Chief Examiner at the City of Oak Harbor. When a position opens candidates who attain a passing score (75%) on the exam and pass the physical abilities test will be sent the City of Oak Harbor application process information. If applicants meet the required qualifications they will be placed on the Civil Service Commission’s eligibility list.  The Civil Service Commission will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to continue to participate in other stages of the selection process.
