Emergency Management

As Emergency Services Director, the Fire Chief coordinates emergency preparedness efforts within the City of Oak Harbor and has established a plan to follow when the City encounters large-scale emergencies.

Community based preparedness and planning allow us to manage the potential hazards flowing a disaster event. Being prepared for emergencies and knowing what to do can help reduce fear, anxiety, and losses. Individually, we can prepare our homes and families to get through critical times.

The City of Oak Harbor works closely with Island County Department of Emergency Management and is responsible for emergency management within the City of Oak Harbor to include planning and coordinating actions for the preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery from natural and manmade emergencies and disasters.

The City has established an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Station 81. The EOC is a central operations facility activiated during large-scale emergency events. It is staffed by individuals trained in the National Incident Managment Sytem (NIMS) who collect, gather, and analyze data and then make decisions that protect life and property and maintan continuity of the City.
