Fire Prevention -- Public Education

Fire Prevention -- Public Education

Oak Harbor Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Education program encompasses a wide variety of activities for citizens of all ages.

Community Events -- OHFD participates in annual City events including Holland Happening, Independence Day festivities, National Night Out, the Home Depot Safety Fair and more.

School Lunch with a Firefighter -- each year firefighters have a lunch date with each of the OHSD elementary schools. The lunch provides an opportunity for local children to meet firefighters, tour apparatus, and learn fire prevention and safety.

Fire Station Tours are very popular, especially during Fire Prevention Week each October. Station tours include age-appropriate fire prevention lessons, hands-on learning and exploring, and homework - each child is encouraged to establish a meeting place and hold a fire drill with his family.
When scheduling a tour please keep the following tips in mind:
  1. Please schedule your tour at least two weeks in advance.
  2. Tours are available Monday through Friday between 8am and 5pm, when firefighters are available.
  3. Each tour is approximately thirty minutes long.
  4. Each tour is limited to twenty-five people and we request at least one adult per five children.
  5. Birthday parties are welcome to schedule a station tour as part of the celebration; however, our facility may not be used for birthday festivities (such as cake, ice cream, and/or gifts).
  6. Please note Station 81 is a working fire station and crews remain available for response during all tours. In the event a crew is called away during your visit, we will be happy to re-schedule your tour for another day.
Fire Station Tours for Individuals or families
Station 81 is open to the public each day from 8:00AM - 5:00PM. You are welcome to stop by the station lobby and ask if it's a good time for a quick tour. If personnel are available, we'll be happy to show you the station.

Schedule a Tour
To schedule a tour of OHFD Station 81 on Whidbey Avenue please call (360) 279-4706.

Fire Stopper Program -- an intense program designed to prevent children who show a preoccupation with fire from setting a fire. Parents are often the first to notice a child's interest in flames/fire and the first to want to stop a dangerous fixation with fire. If you are concerned about your child's interest in matches, fires, and burning, please contact our public education officer at (360) 279-4706 or contact our training captain (see contact page).
