Tara Hizon

Boards:  Youth Coalition, LEOFF I

photo of Tara Hizon Born in Camarillo, California, Tara spent her early childhood in Japan before her family moved to Oak Harbor (via the U.S. Navy) in 1985. She is a 1996 graduate of Oak Harbor High School and has been an active volunteer in the community since her teens.

Tara currently works as a Realty Technician, researching and reviewing right-of-way easement and title documents as a contractor through the DOE. Prior to that, she was a technical writer and owner of her own corporate copywriting firm. She also spent eight years driving all over Island and Skagit County as a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser.

Although she can’t swim, Tara enjoys kayaking in local waters. She is an avid reader, accomplished singer, compulsive beachcomber, fair-weather hiker, and terrible golfer.

In her role as a Council Member, she advocates for local youth on the Oak Harbor Youth Coalition. Tara organized a candlelight vigil to honor fallen pilots stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, and worked with the Greater Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce to organize a summer beach clean-up effort. Her first year in office, Whidbey News Times readers voted Tara as the Island's "Best Elected Official."

Tara maintains a constant 'open door' policy with Oak Harbor residents. She encourages anyone with local governmental concerns/feedback/suggestions to contact her so that she may represent the community as effectively as possible.
