Historic Preservation Commission

The Historic Preservation Commission of Oak Harbor was created with the passage of Ordinance No. 1822, which added Chapter 18.50 "Historic Preservation" to the Oak Harbor Municipal Code.  The goal of having code regarding historic preservation and an active Historic Preservation Commission is for the City to obtain Certified Local Government status through the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP).  The Historic Preservation Commission will have authority under OHMC Chapter 18.50 to act on applications for historic status, and will also serve in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and the City Council.

The Historic Preservation Commission is currently recruiting all seven initial members, to be appointed by the Mayor.  Once the membership has been filled, the first meeting of the Commission will be scheduled.  The tentative date for the meetings will be the fourth Thursday of the month at 4:00 PM at City Hall, and once active, will likely only meet once per quarter.  The meetings will be open to the public.

The Development Services Department Staff Liaison for the Historic Preservation Commission is Lisa Felix, Administrative Assistant,, 360-279-4512.
