A native of Oak Harbor,
Mayor Patty Cohen has served five terms on the Oak Harbor City
Council and is serving her second term as Mayor.
She has worked on the
Downtown Development Council, Park Board, Economic Development
Council, Regional Transportation Board, Start-Up of Island Transit
Board, Partnership with Youth Board, Downtown Revitalization Forum,
North Whidbey Circulation Task Force, Oak Harbor Community Summit
1993-1994, the Child Abuse Prevention Board, the NAS Whidbey Task
Force, and served on both AWC (Assoc. Washington Cities) and the
National League of Cities Policy Boards.
Mayor Cohen sponsored
two large projects: A State grant that transformed the Oak Harbor
City Beach Park and following the Base Closure process in the
1990's, sponsored and lobbied for the Economic Diversification
Plan for North Whidbey. Mayor Cohen was recognized by the Economic
Development Council as Elected Official of the Year for her work
on this program.
Mayor Cohen serves the
Island County Board of Health, Cascadia Mayor's Committee, ICOM,
Council of Governments, NLC FAIR, AWC Resolution Committee, NAID
Open Base Committee NWAPA, and RTPO.
She is a member of the Oak Harbor Chapter
of Soroptimist International and was recognized in February 2000
with a Woman of Distinction Award. Mayor Cohen is a graduate of
Oak Harbor High School and attended Shoreline College in Seattle,
earning a degree in Medical Technology.
